The International Campaign: Colombia Asbestos Free. An international call for awareness, justice, collaboration, eradication and solidarity from the Global South.

The Challenge

  • Colombia banned asbestos in 2019 — yet millions still live under asbestos roofs or near contaminated sites.
  • Each year, around 500 Colombians die from asbestos-related diseases, according to Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data.
  • However, this figure is likely a significant underestimation, due to the absence of national monitoring systems and the lack of an official registry of victims.
  • One of the main goals of this campaign is to make these invisible victims visible — and to prevent new ones in the future.

🕊️ We cannot heal what remains invisible.

Our Response

A nationwide, digital-first communication and education effort that will:

  • Inform citizens about what asbestos is, where it is found, and the diseases it causes.
  • Teach safe handling, maintenance, and prevention practices.
  • Identify families affected by asbestos-related diseases.
  • Build a citizen-led movement for justice and accountability.
  • Promote a comprehensive approach to asbestos management, including the identification, control, removal, transportation, and safe final disposal of asbestos materials.

This initiative aims not only to bring justice to those already affected, but also to protect public health and save lives for generations to come.

How We Will Do It

🎥 Audiovisual Campaign — 10–15 professional short films and animations.
📱 Social Media Impact — Educational content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X and YouTube.
👥 Citizen Engagement — A professional team to respond, educate, and connect with communities.
⚙️ Safe Management — Support awareness of best practices for safe asbestos removal, containment, and waste disposal through trained and certified professionals.

Expected Results (2026)

✅ Millions of citizens informed and engaged.
✅ Dozens of families identified and supported.
✅ National debate on asbestos management and eradication strengthened.
✅ The first collective legal actions initiated.
✅ A replicable model for the Global South.

Colombia can become a symbol of transformation — from contamination to awareness, from silence to justice.
