{"id":4161,"date":"2018-10-17T15:05:56","date_gmt":"2018-10-17T20:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundclas.org\/en\/?p=4161"},"modified":"2018-10-17T15:17:27","modified_gmt":"2018-10-17T20:17:27","slug":"canada-bans-asbestos-finally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundclas.org\/en\/canada-bans-asbestos-finally\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada bans asbestos \u2013 finally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rightoncanada.ca\/?p=4294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathleen Ruff, RightOnCanada.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"fl\">Wed, Oct 17, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Canada today released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2018\/2018-10-17\/html\/sor-dors196-eng.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regulations<\/a> that prohibit asbestos and products containing asbestos<\/p>\n<p>The regulations will come into effect in 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>This is a great day in the struggle to ban the use of asbestos everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>It is not a perfect day, however. The regulations exempt the 800\u00a0million tonnes of mining residues in Quebec, which contain up to 40% asbestos, and projects to make commercial use of the residues by, for example, extracting magnesium.<\/p>\n<p>The government states that risks of exposure from asbestos mining residues are already addressed through provincial occupational and health legislation. This is simply untrue.
